OSINT Analyst (Afghanistan) – Maternity Cover

 

The OSINT Analyst utilises their open-source intelligence (OSINT) and social media intelligence (SOCMINT) investigation skills to conduct remote research and analysis of the human rights, security, and political situation in Afghanistan.

 

As an OSINT Analyst, you will use your expertise to acquire and analyse information from open sources, extracting key pieces of information to produce high-quality reports and briefings that are comprehensive, accurate, and contextualised for clients.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Use remote open-source intelligence (OSINT) and social media intelligence (SOCMINT) tools and techniques to investigate human rights, security and political developments in Afghanistan and its near-abroad region.

  • Produce high-quality briefings, reports, and other products to present your findings.

  • Conduct social media monitoring, ensuring that data collection, categorisation, preservation, and processing are carried out in accordance with project protocols.

  • Develop and maintain an awareness and understanding of Afghan affairs and trends, including relevant social, political, security and economic dynamics.

  • Work collaboratively with fellow investigators.

  • Present investigations in formats appropriate for reports to donors or for publication on social media platforms, ensuring your findings, methodology and evidence are communicated clearly and effectively.

 

Required Skills

  • Fluency in English.

  • Ability to communicate effectively via both written and verbal means.

  • An analytical, curious, and proactive mindset.

 

 

Desirable Skills

 

  • Proficiency in one or more Afghan languages.

 

 

Working Arrangements

​The role is a full-time maternity cover position. We can offer an immediate start date on a consultancy contract until 9 February 2024. As this is maternity cover, applicants should not assume that there will be a possibility of extension beyond this date.

 

The role can be conducted fully remotely, at the Centre for Information Resilience’s (CIR) London office, or hybrid.

 

CIR encourages flexible working and is happy to agree a working pattern to suit the successful applicant. We generally expect staff to be available between the core hours of 10.00-12.00 GMT and 14.00-15.30 GMT each working day unless an exception has been agreed.

The rate for this position will be dependent on experience, falling within the range of GBP 210 to GBP 230 per day.

OSINT Analyst - Uzbek language (Part-time; Remote/Hybrid)

The OSINT Analyst will utilise open-source intelligence (OSINT) and social media intelligence (SOCMINT) investigation skills to conduct remote research and analysis of the human rights and security situation in the Central and South Asia region, with an emphasis on how these issues interact with events in Afghanistan.

 

As an OSINT Analyst, you will use your expertise to acquire and analyse information from open sources, extracting key pieces of information to produce high-quality reports and briefings that are comprehensive, accurate, insightful, and which capture the key developments as they relate to the broader regional human rights and security situation. Areas for investigation are likely to include terrorism, extremist propaganda, security incidents, human rights violations, transnational movements, political developments, and the status of local information environments.

 

As a native-level Uzbek language speaker, you will also assist the team with translations and cultural awareness, using your language skills to investigate specialised sections of the regional information environment. 

  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Use remote open-source intelligence (OSINT) and social media intelligence (SOCMINT) tools and techniques to investigate human rights, security and political developments in the Central and Southern Asia region. 

  • Produce high-quality briefings, reports, and other products to present your findings. 

  • Conduct social media monitoring, ensuring that data collection, categorisation, preservation and processing are carried out in accordance with project protocols. 

  • Utilise your language skills to investigate Uzbek-speaking areas of the Afghan information environment, assisting the AW team with translations where necessary. 

  • Develop and maintain an awareness of understanding of Central and Southern Asian and Afghan affairs, including social, political, security and economic dynamics. 

  • Work collaboratively with fellow investigators. 

  • Present investigations in formats appropriate for reports to donors or for publication on social media platforms, ensuring findings, methodology and evidence are communicated clearly and effectively.

 

Required Skills

  • Fluency in English and Uzbek languages.

  • Ability to communicate effectively via both written and verbal means.

  • An analytical, curious and proactive mindset.

 

Working Arrangements

​The role is part-time, with an average expected commitment of 12 working days per month.

The role can be conducted fully remotely, at the Centre for Information Resilience’s (CIR) London office, or hybrid.

CIR encourages flexible working and is happy to agree a working pattern to suit the successful applicant. We generally expect staff to be available between the core hours of 10.00 -12.00 GMT and 14.00-15.30 GMT each working day unless an exception has been agreed.

We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible and we offer a consultancy contract until 29 March 2024. This is likely to be extended, however we cannot guarantee it currently.

The rate for this position will be dependent on experience, falling within the range of GBP 200 to GBP 230 per day.
